Some deriheru shops in Japan may be unable to accept a booking from an international guest because they cannot communicate clearly in a shared language, cannot arrange a visit to the requested hotel, or cannot complete the necessary booking checks. These are specific booking conditions and are different from refusing someone solely because of nationality or appearance.
Deriheru, short for “delivery health,” is an adult outcall service in which a shop arranges for a companion to visit a hotel or another permitted location. Before confirming a booking, the shop needs to check communication, availability, location, pricing, and applicable rules. A shop may still decline an individual request even if it generally welcomes international guests.
A booking condition is not the same as “Japanese Only”
The phrase “Japanese Only” does not explain what a business actually needs. If the requirement is Japanese-language communication, the business should state that. If bookings are limited to members or existing customers, that should be stated separately.
Language requirement
The shop may need to explain prices, rules and arrival instructions in a language both sides understand.
Booking requirement
The shop may require a confirmed reservation, a valid contact method or a location within its service area.
Nationality restriction
A rule based only on nationality or perceived ethnicity is different from a specific booking condition.
Japan’s Ministry of Justice treats refusing goods or services solely because someone is foreign as a potential human-rights issue. That does not decide whether an individual booking refusal is lawful. It does show why a business should state the actual condition instead of relying on a vague nationality label.
Does “Japanese Only” explain why a booking was refused?
No. It does not tell you whether the issue was language support, availability, the location or a rule based on nationality. A specific booking condition gives you information you can act on.
What the shop needs to communicate
Language support must cover the booking itself, not only greetings or a translated homepage. Before anyone travels, the shop and customer need to understand the same arrangement.
- The request. The date, arrival time, duration, destination and requested companion must match the available schedule.
- The price. The customer needs to know the course price and any applicable companion-request, transportation, or option fees.
- The rules. Age requirements, prohibited conduct and cancellation conditions must be understood before confirmation.
- Arrival contact. The shop needs a working contact method for room details, delays or a required lobby meeting.
An “English OK” label can mean different things. Check whether English support covers the entire booking process, including prices, rules, hotel information, and last-minute communication.
A language condition asks whether the booking can be completed clearly. A nationality condition asks who the customer is. They are not interchangeable.
Do I need to speak Japanese to book deriheru in Japan?
Not if the shop supports your language throughout the booking. Confirm that the support covers prices, rules, hotel details and arrival contact, rather than only general inquiries.
What makes a booking workable
An inquiry is not a confirmed booking. The shop first needs enough information to check whether the requested visit can take place.
- The requested companion is available for the full booking time.
- The destination is inside the shop’s service area.
- The hotel or other location can be used for the visit.
- The customer understands the price and applicable rules.
- The shop and customer have a working contact method.
- The shop has clearly stated that the booking is confirmed.
If information is missing, the shop may need to ask additional questions before accepting the request. A request may also be declined because the companion is unavailable, the location is outside the service area, or the shop cannot complete the booking in a shared language. None of these reasons is unique to international guests.
Why the hotel can change the answer
A shop may welcome international guests and still be unable to arrange a visit to a particular hotel. The shop’s service area and the property’s visitor rules are separate checks.
Hotels do not all handle visitors in the same way. A property may require the registered guest to meet a visitor in the lobby, restrict access to guest floors, or prohibit unregistered visitors from entering guest rooms. A key-card-controlled elevator may also prevent a visitor from reaching the room without the registered guest.
The shop therefore needs the correct hotel name before confirming the booking. After check-in, it may also need the room number or instructions for meeting in the lobby. The accommodation controls access to its property, and the outcall shop cannot override those rules.
Can a foreigner-friendly shop visit any hotel?
No. Language support does not guarantee access to every hotel. The shop still needs to check its service area and the property’s visitor arrangements.
How to identify a foreigner-friendly service
A foreigner-friendly service should publish enough information for an international guest to understand how the booking process works and what needs to be confirmed.
| Check | Useful published information |
|---|---|
| Communication | The supported languages, contact channels and operating hours |
| Price | The course prices and how the final total is confirmed |
| Rules | The age requirement, prohibited conduct and cancellation conditions |
| Location | The general service area and whether the specific hotel can be served. |
| Confirmation | How the time, destination, price and contact details become final |
Published information does not guarantee that every request will be accepted. The requested companion may be unavailable, the destination may be outside the service area, or the hotel may not permit the visit. The value of a clear website is that these questions can be checked before travel is arranged.
Club Focus Shibuya’s How to Use page states that English support is available through WhatsApp and LINE. It explains that service is available at selected hotels in Shibuya and nearby areas and asks customers to confirm their specific hotel before booking.
Its pricing page states that the listed prices apply to international guests and that no surcharge or handling fee is added based on country of origin or language. The same page also lists conditions that may prevent or stop service, including use by anyone under 18, excessive intoxication, prohibited conduct, and a location judged unsuitable. These are Club Focus Shibuya’s published conditions, not universal rules for every shop.
Do foreign guests always pay an extra fee?
No. There is no universal surcharge for international guests. Fees vary between shops, so ask for the total amount before confirming the booking. Club Focus Shibuya currently states that it does not charge any additional fee based on country of origin or language.
What to prepare before contacting a shop
You cannot control a shop’s policy, but you can provide the information it needs to check your request.
- Use a language and contact channel the shop has listed.
- Provide the preferred date, arrival time and booking duration.
- Name the requested companion, or say that you have not chosen one.
- Provide the full hotel name and area.
- Ask whether the shop can arrange a visit to your hotel and whether a lobby meeting is required.
- Ask for the total price and applicable charges.
- Read the age, conduct, payment and cancellation rules.
- Remain reachable through the agreed contact channel during hotel check-in and until the visit is arranged.
If a request is declined, you can ask whether the issue is language support, availability, the service area, hotel access, or a published rule. Do not pressure a business to accept the booking. Choose a service that clearly states its conditions and can confirm the full arrangement before anyone travels.
